Novotel & ibis Melbourne Central Achieves 4-Star NABERS Energy and Water Ratings

Melbourne, Australia – July 2026 – Novotel & ibis Melbourne Central has achieved 4-Star NABERS Energy and 4-Star NABERS Water Ratings, recognising the hotel's ongoing commitment to responsible hospitality and environmental sustainability. The independently certified ratings are valid until 6 July 2027, reflecting the property's continued focus on improving operational efficiency and reducing its environmental footprint.

One of the most significant outcomes from this year's assessment was a 33.5% reduction in water consumption, demonstrating the impact of continuous improvements across the hotel. This achievement contributed to an improved NABERS Water progress metric of 4.3 stars, highlighting the property's ongoing progress in water conservation and sustainable resource management.

The hotel's 4-Star Energy Rating also reflects its continued efforts to improve building efficiency, optimise energy performance and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while maintaining the high standard of comfort and service guests expect.

NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) is Australia's leading national rating system for measuring the environmental performance of buildings. The independent certification provides a trusted benchmark for energy efficiency, water use and environmental performance, helping organisations continuously improve their sustainability outcomes.

Craig Kelmar, General Manager of Novotel & ibis Melbourne Central, said the achievement reflects the hotel's long-term commitment to responsible hospitality.

"Sustainability is embedded in the way we operate every day. These NABERS ratings are a reflection of the collective effort of our Heartists, who continue to find smarter ways to reduce our environmental impact while delivering exceptional guest experiences. We're proud of this achievement and remain committed to building on this momentum in the years ahead."

Chief Engineer and Sustainability Champion Mel Maio said the results demonstrate the value of continuous operational improvement.

"Achieving a 33.5% reduction in water consumption is a fantastic outcome and highlights what can be accomplished through careful monitoring, preventative maintenance and collaboration across the hotel. Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we'll continue identifying opportunities to improve the performance of our building while supporting Accor's commitment to responsible hospitality."

These achievements form part of Accor's global commitment to Pioneering the Art of Responsible Hospitality, with Novotel & ibis Melbourne Central continuing to invest in initiatives that improve environmental performance, reduce resource consumption and create more sustainable travel experiences for guests.

As the hotel continues its sustainability journey, every improvement — large or small — contributes to a more responsible future for its guests, Heartists and the wider community.
